The Strategic Partnership Agreement for Free Trade between MERCOSUR and the European Union sets out rules for the exchange of commercial legal transactions between the member States. Among the many advances that it will bring for multilateral trade in goods and services, the creation of a system of dispute settlement through arbitration stands out, allowing the trade blocs themselves to settle disputes by acting as subjects of international law. The Agreement is one of the first to create this new method of dispute settlement in Free Trade Agreements between trade blocs.
