Abstract

MUJICA-STACH, Ana Milena; CARTER-THUILLIER, Bastian  and  CASANOVA CARDENAS, Olga. Effects of Confinement on the Emotions of Immigrant Children: Analysis from the Perspective of Emotional Intelligence. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2021, vol.17, n.2, pp.331-356. ISSN 2226-4000.  https://doi.org/10.18004/riics.2021.diciembre.331.

Emotions have been shown to play a transcendental role in human development and in the construction of learning during the different stages of life. This research aims to evaluate the effects of COVID-19 confinement on the emotions of immigrant children. It is an analysis from the point of view of emotional intelligence, in which a non-experimental evaluative design was used, developed under a quantitative approach. 56 individuals participated in the study: 24 immigrant boys, and 32 immigrant girls, from 4 to 5 years of age, in Early Childhood Education. The main results indicate that the mastery of emotional competencies is far from the suitability suggested by the specialized literature, which claims that the knowledge and management of this type of competencies imply the consolidation of personal success in all contexts of human action. It is concluded that boys and girls in confinement show an unsuitable use of their emotions in an unconscious way, hence the need to generate knowledge about the importance of an effective management of emotional competences, adjusting to the requirements of the current reality (current confinement and post-pandemic life).

Keywords : early childhood; competences; migration; virus; intelligence.
