Abstract

FONSECA-FERIS, Roberto  and  FLEITAS-ALVAREZ, Victor Carlos. Small and medium-size companies in Paraguay. Limitations for its internationalization. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2020, vol.16, n.2, pp.294-311. ISSN 2226-4000.  https://doi.org/10.18004/riics.2020.diciembre.294.

SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) play a fundamental role in the economy of the countries by meeting the basic needs of the inhabitants. In the globalized world they find great competition from multinationals and transnationals that have material, human and financial resources to achieve their expansion. SMEs at a frank competitive disadvantage need to gain a more competitive space internationally; however, there are barriers that restrict its activity outside national borders. The main objective of this article focused on analyzing the factors that limit the international management of SMEs in Paraguay, using documentary sources. It was concluded that the main limitations of SMEs are in the costs derived from the information, which can cause serious damages, as well as the lack of financing; on the other hand, ignorance of national and international standards results in losses in their export or late payment in the service they provide; the lack of technological literacy among entrepreneurs affects their inclusion in the international market. Lastly, it was observed that SME workers in Paraguay are below the income and remuneration they need to enter the world market.
