The study presents a qualitative analysis of the reality of the Paraguayan university in the face of society's challenges. The purpose was to interpret the relationship of the University of Paraguay to the challenges that society demands, in order to propose alternatives to optimize the articulation between the different dimensions of the university mission and the current challenges, in the process of transformation of society. The role of the universities of Paraguay in fulfilling their duty was analyzed, the style of institutional leadership that the Paraguayan universities possess and the perception of the key actors in the university field regarding the institutional relationship with society. The methodological design approach was non-experimental, qualitative, based on a descriptive study. The target population was the universities of Paraguay, made up of 55 universities, 9 from the public sector and 46 from the private one. The analysis unit was composed of universities, the information unit was made up of actors from this field, managers, teachers, graduates and key referents of higher education.
