Abstract
AGUILAR CORREA, Cristián Manuel. The semantic construction of the Ecology concept by Pedagogy university students. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2018, vol.14, n.1, pp.3-16. ISSN 2226-4000. https://doi.org/10.18004/riics.2018.julio.003-016.
The present article had the objective to know and to analyze the semantic constructions that students of Pedagogy have about the concept of Ecology. This is key, as current research in this area of knowledge, indicates that effective environmental training, must favor in future teachers, knowledge based on the ecological basis that govern natural processes. To bring about this research we use the technique of Natural Semantic Networks. The instrument was applied to 166 students of the courses of Pedagogy in General Basic Education and Pedagogy in Basic General Education with mention in Language, Mathematics, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences, of the Universidad Católicadel Maule, Chile. The results show that although the students have some ideas based from the formal framework of ecology, in them coexist an extensive network of alternative conceptual nodes; of intermingled meanings and of different theoretical nature. The students relate mainly ecology with concepts such as: nature, to care, environment, living beings, life, pollution, recycling, etc. These results put in evidence the importance of working on environmental education in initial teacher education from the ecological paradigm, because it is from these representations that future teachers will teach their students.
