The sport dropout imply a global questioning of the social and psychological dimensions, affecting the identity built from of the competitive sport. The purpose of this article is to analyze the phenomenon of abandonment from a psychosocial perspective through theoretical and empirical backgrounds, organizing the text into four sections. The first is an introductory review that defines the concept of sport dropout. The following is focused on problematize and describe retirement sport as an object of psychosocial analysis. Subsequently transformation processes to personal and social levels that are usually caused by the abandonment of the sport are discussed, analyzing possible consequences and implications. In fourth are developed concluding remarks and main conclusions of the paper.
