From our perspective, in the context of contemporary society, the institution of higher education called university has lost its fundamental sense. This paper presents a theoretical reflection that attempts to reassert its essential meaning constituted by critical questioning without constraints on the production of knowledge, beyond the different pressures to which is filed within a consumer society oriented material productivity in the short term
