Abstract

This article presents a comparative analysis of public policies from elements that characterize them, applied in the context of environmental management in eight Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Peru. This method was used Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA or for Qualitative Comparative Analysis) in the treatment of 5 variables: multilateral agreements signed, companies certified to ISO 14000, effective environmental policy framework, level of responsibility environmental management, force the governing body responsible for environmental management and environmental Representation index (EPI). The results identify the maximum term of the responsible body and the level of responsibility of environmental management as determinants of the success of the countries analyzed. Given these results, it is suggested that governments raise the priority on environmental issues, institutionalized ministerial level
