Abstract
DIAZ LARENAS, Claudio and BASTIAS DIAZ, Cecilia. Mentoring processes in initial teacher training. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2013, vol.9, n.2, pp.301-315. ISSN 2226-4000.
This paper analyses the mentoring process in detail as a key part of the practicum component in initial teacher training and views this activity as fundamental in the incorporation of future teachers into the school culture. Mentoring is the link between universities and schools; therefore, as such, it should become a formal academic activity within teacher preparation programmes. The concept and functions of mentoring are initially outlined in this paper, to later approach the types of interventions and feedback procedures that are involved in the mentor and mentee relationship. In the context of the teacher preparation triad: university, schools and teacher candidates, mentoring emphasizes future teachers’ learning processes, with the purpose of stimulating their reflective and autonomous thinking skills.
Keywords : Mentoring; mentor; mentee; teacher preparation.
