The housing bubble originated in 2008 in the United States, slowed down the economic growth in Latin America, and caused poverty rates to rise again. Facing up to this question, this study aims to examine whether the overall housing crisis of 2008 weakened democracy in Latin America, using democracy studies conducted between 2008 and 2010, Latinobarómetro and Democratic Development Index for Latin America (IDD-LAT) Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.
