Comparative study of the internal egg quality in three genotypes of free-range layers. The internal quality of the eggs laid by three genotypes of hens destined for semi-intensive systems: the three-way cross Campero Casilda, the self-sexing layer Negra INTA and a Rhode Island Red strain was evaluated. Between 26 and 70 weeks of age random samples of 15 eggs from each group were removed at regular intervals of four weeks. In each egg, the height and the greater and lesser diameters of the yolk and the height, length and width of the albumen were measured. As indicators of internal quality, the yolk and albumen indices and the Haug units were calculated. The dynamic pattern of the three indicators and the variables involved in their calculation was evaluated by non-linear and linear regression on hens age. The eggs of the three genetic groups presented a high internal quality, which was maintained throughout the laying cycle without differences in the indicators related to the albumen but with a more advantageous behavior of the yolk component in the case of the three way cross Campero Casilda, which valorizes it as a dual-purpose option for semi-intensive systems.
