Abstract

ALBERTO, Arias A et al. Comparative study of forage production and nutritional quality of crop varieties of alfalfa (Medicago sativa), in Peru's humid and dry puna. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.2, pp.7-12. ISSN 2226-1761.  https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2021.11.02.7.

The study was carried out in the Casaracra experimental center, at an altitude of 3,819 meters above sea level, belonging to the Daniel Alcides Carrión National University. Three treatments were used: alfalfa WL 350 (T1), alfalfa W 440 (T2) and alfalfa Brown 6 (T3). Forage production was determined in green matter (MV), dry matter (DM) and percent of dry matter content. Five variables were analyzed for nutritional quality: total protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, calcium and phosphorus. The data obtained were analyzed using a completely random design, as well as the Tukey's test of significance (p<0.05). The results of forage production in MV and DM showed no significant differences (p<0.05) between treatments T2 and T3, as well in the percentage of dry matter between treatments T1 and T3. In nutritional quality, the variables total protein, fibers and minerals did not show significant differences (p<0.05) among the three treatments. It is concluded that treatment T2 and T3 showed better production of green and dry forage, being recommended for sowing in the humid and dry zones of the Peruvian puna. Therefore, for nutritional quality, all treatments were suitable for livestock feeding.
