VETTER HIEBERT, JR. Presence of Physaloptera sp. and Ascaris sp. in a blach and white Tegu (Salvator merianae) from the Parque Guasu Metropolitano, City of Asunción, Paraguay. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2020, vol.10, n.1, pp.41-45. ISSN 2226-1761. https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2020.10.01.41.
The black and white tegu, Salvator merianae, is a lizard from the Teiidae Family, which is widely distributed along the Paraguayan territory. This work reports the parasites found in the intestinal content of an adult female, captured in the Parque Guasu Metropolitano, who died from the effects of bushfire. The sample was processed according to Sheathers' flotation method. Adult forms and eggs of nematodes morphologically corresponding to Physaloptera sp. and Ascaris sp. were found. Both genera are found in domestic animals, so mutual infection between domestic animals and wildlife cannot be excluded. This work highlights the value of analysing all samples obtained from wildlife, in order to maintain a permanent vigilance.
