SLANAC, AL; KUCSEVA, CD  e  LOPEZ, MS. RUMINAL DEGRADABILITY OF DRY MATTER Chloris gayana HAY TREATED WITH UREA IN CATTLE. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2019, vol.9, n.2, pp.18-23. ISSN 2226-1761.  https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2019.09.02.18-23.

ABSTRACT. The objective of this assay was to evaluate the effect of adding urea on the degradability of dry matter in hay Chloris gayana (Grama Rhodes cv. Callide). The trial was conducted from March 2011 to March 2012 at the Colonia Benítez Experimental Station of the National Institute of Agricultural Technology-INTA (Chaco, Argentina). Samples of the plant material were dehydrated and then ammonified with different percentages of urea (0; 2; 4; 6%). Then, according to the "in situ” suspension technique, they were introduced into the rumen of two animals crosses zebu 3.5 year-old and 420 kg live-weight, through a rumen cannula implanted in the left paralumbar fossa. For the estimation of the kinetics of digestion of dry matter (DM), the model proposed by Orskov et al, 1980, was used. The effective degradability was calculated according to the same authors' equation. The degradation kinetics of C. gayana showed significant differences for the ruminal degradability of DM at rates of 2% (p = 0.010) and 4% (p = 0.022), in both cases with a linear effect presentation. It is concluded that the ruminal degradability of the DM of hay C. gayana showed changes with the addition of urea, since it registered greater degradability in those hay that received higher percentages of urea per kg of dry grass.
