VETTER HIEBERT, R  y  SEGOVIA GIMENEZ, P. CASE REPORT: MULTIPLE FRACTURE IN HUMERUS AND ULNA IN A CRANE HAWK (Geranospiza caerulescens) SOLVED WITH A N°2 STEINMANN PIN AND BANDAGE. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.2, pp.44-48. ISSN 2226-1761.  https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2018.08.02.44-48.

A Crane Hawk (Geranospiza caerulescens), a medium-sized raptor, was brought to the Wild and Exotic Animals Practice, in the Department of Wildlife and Natural Environment, of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, on the National University of Asunción. The patient presented an exposed fractured right humerus, whose x-rays confirmed a multiple fracture in the humerus, transverse in the proximal diafisis, and oblicuous and exposed on distal; and a transverse fracture in proximal ulna. The fractures in the humerus were solved using a Steinmann pin, N°2 size, and the ulnar fracture was solved with bandage. The antibiotic therapy used was enrofloxacin, 10mg/kg every 12 hours for 7 days, and cefazolin, 80mg/kg every 12 hours for 15 days. It has to be taken into consideration that the exposed pneumatic bone can predispose respiratory infections. Steinmann pin for 30 days is feasible for the resolution of fractured humerus but, according to the obtained result, it is fundamental to sustain it with a secure external coaptation.
