Abstract

SZWAKO, A; GIMENEZ, A  and  TOMASSI, M. ANTIBODIES LEVELS AGAINST RABIES IN FIRST VACCINATED GOATS WITH COMMERCIAL VACCINE CEPA PV/BHK. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.1, pp.33-38. ISSN 2226-1761.  https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2018.08.01.33-38.

The present work was carried out in a farm from Caacupé District, Cordillera Department, Eastern Region of the Republic of Paraguay, with the main objective to determine antibodies levels against rabies in primal vaccinated caprines with a commercial PV / BHK strain vaccine. Caprine species animals were selected, without breeds distinction (Toggemburg, Saanen, Crossbreed), from 3 to 12 months of age, clinically healthy, without vaccination history. The first blood sampling and vaccination were performed in day zero. After thirty days, second blood sampling was performed together with vaccination reinforcement. These samples were sent to the Rabies Department at Central Laboratory of SENACSA (Quality and Animal Health National Service), San Lorenzo, Paraguay. Samples were processed by the serum neutralization method in adult mice for antibodies determination against rabies in vaccinated organisms. The following results were obtained: 0% of animals were protected at first control. At second control 90% (18) of the sampled animals developed a sufficient or high immune response, which were able to equal or exceed the minimum value of 1:25 Total Parts or 0.5 IU/mL. The remaining 10% (2) animals reached a certain level of antibodies, but this level failed to confer protective immunity, it was below the minimum value established by WHO / OIE to be considered as protective.
