Abstract

GONZALEZ, DF; RODRIGUEZ, MI  and  MARECO, D. STUDY OF CORRELATION BETWEEN THE INTERILIAC CIRCUMFERENCE AND THE MEATINESS OF THE RABBIT CARCASS OF THE NEOZELAND RACE: A BREAKTHROUGH. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2017, vol.7, n.1, pp.12-20. ISSN 2226-1761.  https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2017.07.01.12-20.

This research was performed at the Department of Morphological Sciences and Division of Rabbit Breeding, Faculty of Veterinary Science, National University of Asunción. We evaluated 23 rabbits of the New Zealand race with 60 days of chronological age, 13 males and 10 females. The objective was to analyse the correlation between the interilíac circumference and the meatiness, in addition, using descriptive statistics were examined twelve variables defined as: body weight at slaughter (PVM); hot carcass weight (PCC); viscera weight (PV); skin weight (PP); yield of the carcass (RC); carcass length (LC); dorsal length of the carcass (LDC); pelvic length (LP); interiliac circumference (CI); meatiness (C); thickening (E); proportion of the anatomical regions in the carcass (PRAC).The results obtained showed that longitudinal measures were poor predictors of meatiness and therefore should not be an exclusion criterion for assessing the quality of the country carcasses of rabbits in New Zealand genetic group, under the conditions considered in this study. In addition, associations were registered, among which were highlighted the positive and high between LC and LP (0.88); PV and PP (0.81) in males and CR and PCC (0.85) in females. The statistical correlation between CI and C (0.42; 0.35) in males and females, respectively, was null since it did not exceed the values considered boundaries around the nullity. The probability associated with the null hypothesis test was higher than expected (p> 0.05), not being able to verify an association between the interiliac circumference and the meatiness, based on the levels of significance obtained.
