TORRES, M et al. EFFECTS OF Stevia rebaudiana (KA'A HE'E) ON THE RUMEN METABOLISM INDICATORS IN SHEEP FED GUNNED FATTENING. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2015, vol.5, n.2, pp.32-37. ISSN 2226-1761.  https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2015.05.02.32-37.

ABSTRACT. The aim was to measure the effect of Stevia rebaudiana in rumen indicators in sheep with rumen fistula and fed with balanced. Three sheep were used, with ruminal cannula confined in different boxes. Four treatments were used: (TC) animal adapted to feeding forage base colonial grass (Panicum maximum); (T1) based concentrate milled corn kernel and coconut expeller together with chopped grass; (T2) more concentrated Stevia rebaudiana leaves 1%; and (T3) more concentrated Stevia rebaudiana leaves 2%. Animal were fed twice days and sample were recollect in the morning and afternoon. The results for pH in T1, T2 and T3 showed a decrease in their values when to compared with TC (p <0.05). Treatment with concentrates displayed accelerates discoloration of the samples with the methylene blue test (p <0.05) and statically significant differences showed a protozoa count in T1, T2 and T3 compared to TC (p<0.05)
