MARTINEZ LOPEZ, OR et al. USING STATISTICAL CORRELATION FOR THE MORPHOMETRIC STUDY OF BEEF CATTLE: CASE PAMPA CHAQUEÑO. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2014, vol.4, n.2, pp.26-32. ISSN 2226-1761.

ABSTRACT. Statistics provides tools like correlation, to validate evidence that supports decisions in various areas of knowledge, such as zootechnics. Their application in morphometry of different genetic groups enables estimate relationships between interest variables useful in selecting individuals with desired characteristics for bovine meat production in special and specific agro-ecological production systems as Paraguayan Chaco. The objective was to evaluate the use of statistical correlation in the Pampa Chaqueño to identify associations between linear measurements of productive interest in beef cattle. 175 adult cattle were evaluated, 95 females and 80 males Pampa Chaqueño, data were analyzed on twelve morphometric variables, values were expressed in centimeters: Width Head (AC), Head Length (LC), Face Length (LR), Anterior Height (AA), Posterior Height (AP), Thoracic Perimeter (PT), Rump Length (LG), Rump Width (AG), Anterior Rod Length (LA), Former Shank Circumference (AC), Posterior Rod Length (LP), Posterior Circumference Reed (CP). By using statistical correlation was possible to detect high positive correlation coefficients, standing in females verified between the anterior and posterior heights and between chest circumference and size of the rump; while in males between the thorax circumference and the anterior and posterior heights. In breeding programs should be considered the length and circumference of cane, front and back, seeking compact type specialized in meat production.
