ABSTRACT. This research work was carried out in order to determine the prevalence of Caseous Lymphadenitis (Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis) in caprine dairy farms, Central Department, Paraguay, year 2012. During the study period, 147 dairy goats, regardless race, over 1 year of age, from 5 caprine dairies, underwent a thorough clinical examination in order to identify symptoms (lymphadenopathy and subcutaneous abscesses). Clinical symptoms were identified in 19 animals (12.9%), which in turn underwent to pus sampling by needle puncture for microbiological identification (culture on blood agar, Gram staining, microscopic examination and biochemical tests). Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis presence was confirmed in 6 animals, other bacterial agents (Staphylococcus sp. or Streptococcus sp.) in 3 animals, and no culture growth in 10 animals. This study revealed that caseous lymphadenitis has 4.1% prevalence in studied population.
