LEGAL, C  and  OSORIO, J. PARTIAL SUBSTITUTION OF COMMERCIAL BALANCE FEED BY MULBERRY LEAF AND THE EFFECT ON WEIGHT GAIN AND FOOD CONSUMPTION IN CROSSBRED RABBITS DURING GROWING. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2013, vol.3, n.2, pp.22-25. ISSN 2226-1761.

ABSTRACT. The research was conducted in the Rabbit Division Farm, at Faculty of Veterinary Science of the National University of Asunción, located in the city of San Lorenzo Paraguay. The experiment aimed to determine the effect of the partial substitution of commercial balance feed by mulberry leaf on daily gain and feed intake of crossbred rabbits in the growth phase. For this purpose 25 rabbits were used, weaned, divided into five treatments with five replicates per treatment in a completely randomized design for 63 days. The treatments were: TI: 100% Commercial Balanced Feed (CBF, control); T II: 90% CBF + 10% mulberry leaves; T III: 80% + 20% mulberry leaves; TIV: 70% CBF + 30% mulberry leaves and TV: 60%CBF + 40% mulberry leaves. Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance, finding the following results, the daily weight gain: 24.67; 24.98; 25.68; 24.19 and 24.54 g ⁄ animal ⁄ day for treatments I, II, III, IV and V respectively, there was no significant difference between treatments (p>0,05). Food consumption per animal per day: 106.0; 67.3; 85.4; 81.5 and 73.1 grams respectively, there was significant difference between treatments compared to Control (TI).

Keywords : leaf of mulberry; commercial balance feed; weight gain; growth phase; rabbit.
