Abstract

MIYAZAKI, Masayuki; OXILIA DAVALOS, Victorio Enrique  and  LEIVA ENRIQUE, Mario Gustavo. Environmental education related to sustainable development in the educational institutions of the municipality of Villa Hayes. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2020, vol.11, n.2, pp.14-19. ISSN 2222-145X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/rcfacen2020.11.02.14.

This research sought to describe the operation of Environmental Education related to sustainable development in three Educational Institutions, corresponding to the Elementary and Middle School levels of the National Educational System of the Municipality of Villa Hayes. A qualitative, exploratory, descriptive research with a non-experimental design was used. As a data collection instrument, the technique of semi- structured personal interviews based on a questionnaire was applied to the students, teachers, and cleaning personnel of the selected Institutions and the Head of Planning of the Municipality, in addition to a document review with the directors of the Institutions. It was found that Environmental Education in the selected educational institutions is very limited to the knowledge and initiative of teachers. Likewise, it was possible to verify the importance that the students give to the activities that the teachers instilled in them. Finally, it was possible to identify teachers with high levels of environmental attitudes, but even so, also the latent need to strengthen competence in environmental sustainability. Therefore, improving said competence is essential to avoid barriers when formulating and transmitting knowledge to students, which is vital to aim to build a sustainable society.
