Resumen

KURITA, Hajime G et al. Report of the Asuncion Bay status during the months of December 2016 and March 2017 in regard to the physical-chemical conditions of the sediment and elutriate*. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2020, vol.11, n.2, pp.3-13. ISSN 2222-145X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/rcfacen2020.11.02.3.

Asuncion Bay has been altered in the past years to follow the growth of the city. However, historically there have been no systematic studies of water quality. Here we present a chapter of a larger report presented to the CONACYT. In this manuscript, we present the results of the analysis of the physical-chemical aspect of the sediment, the elutriate and water from two sampling campaigns done during 2016 and 2017 (March and December, respectively). Nine samples were taken in total. The analysis consisted of 14 determinations for the elutriate, 1 for sediment and 6 for sediment. For the elutriate, 7 determinations (Nitrogen, COD, BOD, lead, and fecal coliforms) were out of the permissible values, according to the current regulation. In the sediment, phosphorous was higher than nitrogen, and heavy metal was higher than the elutriate.

Palabras clave : water quality; Asuncion Bay; sediment; elutriate; superficial water.
