Abstract
FIGUEREDO, Nelly Roció. Behavior of carboxyhemoglobin levels in a group of informal workers in the city of San Lorenzo. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.2, pp.101-111. ISSN 2222-145X. https://doi.org/10.18004/rcfacen.2019.10.2.101.
This paper has the purpose of assessing the consequences of exposure to levels of carbon monoxide (CO) in informal workers with chronic exposure to sustained carbon monoxide emissions. These emissions come from the car fleet and vehicular congestion, in a highly commercial area, with a massive urban-labor activity in the city of San Lorenzo. Out of a total of 123 permanent and informal vendors, stationed on the asphalt contours of one of the busiest streets in the town, 40 vendors exposed to the phenomenon were selected, and in parallel, 40 other vendors called control group were selected. The individuals of this second group carry out their labor activities within the municipal market of San Lorenzo, in places where they are not directly exposed to vehicularlar traffic. The levels of carboxyhemoglobin in blood were measured, two times a day (at arrival and leaving their work places) during seven days, with a portable oximeter with rainbow technology, that analyzes multiple wavelengths of light to measure with Precision carboxyhemoglobin (HbCO) non-invasively.
