Abstract
DELGADO, Abel and MENDEZ, Fernando. Mathematical modeling of the ultraviolet index in San Lorenzo city, Paraguay. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2018, vol.9, n.2, pp.109-112. ISSN 2222-145X. https://doi.org/10.18004/rcfacen.2018.9.2.109.
Ultraviolet (UV) solar radiation has an important biological action on the human body. In this research, the variation of the maximum daily and monthly levels of erythemal irradiance was analyzed to determine the maximum daily and monthly levels of the Ultraviolet Index (UVI), in the City of San Lorenzo, Paraguay, on clear days during the period 2006 - 2009. The erythemal ultraviolet radiation data was acquired from the Meteorological Station of the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Environmental Problems Research (LIAPA) of the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FACEN), National University of Asunción (UNA). These data were measured by a pyranometer model UVB-1 from Yankee Environmental Systems (YES). A mathematical modeling of the monthly series of the UVI was performed through the Fourier series expansion. It was observed that the values of the UVI reach an extremely high intensity (12 units) during the summer, and a moderate intensity (4 units) in winter. By studying the behavior of UVI levels, the population can be informed about the danger of prolonged exposure to UV radiation.
