Resumen

MORALES, Cristina  y  CARDOZO, Romina. EVALUACIÓN DE LA IMPORTANCIA DEL BAÑADO TACUMBÚ (ASUNCIÓN PARAGUAY) PARA LA CONSERVACIÓN DE LAS AVES ACUÁTICAS*. Rep. cient. FACEN [online]. 2010, vol.1, n.1, pp.20-29. ISSN 2222-145X.

: The project "Evaluation of the importance of the Tacumbú wetlands for the conservation of the aquatic birds" had the objective of conducting inventories and monitoring bird populations in order to evaluate, using standardized method for the identification of important birds sites, the relevance of the area for the aquatic species. Bird censuses and inventories were implemented monthly, between July and December of2008 and april and june of 2009. During the period of study, 22 aquatic species were registered, one of them considered as Nearly Threatened (Tryngites subruficollis). The most abundant species was the Mbigua (Phalacrocorax brasilianum); the concentrations of birds in a roosting area represented between 1 and 4% of the national population of the species. We considere that the Bañado Sur, including the ex-quarry of Tacumbú, constitutes a site of national importance for the conservation of aquatic birds; the declaration of the site as protected area is recommended, as well as the implementation of actions of immediate recovery of the lagoon, assuring the local participation as a tool to guarantee the sustainability of the initiative.

Palabras clave : conservation; monitoring; aquatic birds; Tacumbu wetlands.
