Abstract

NUNEZ, Marta Lara; CACERES RUIZ DIAZ, Mariana  and  CORREA, Emilce Sena. Characteristics of financed projects by the National Council of Science and Technology of Paraguay. 2013 And 2015 calls. Poblac.Desarro. [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.54, pp.55-67. ISSN 2076-054X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/pdfce/2076-054x/2022.028.54.055.

Research projects funding is key to the advancement of science, and the knowledge of characteristics of these projects is relevant for the guidelines’ examination for future evaluations. This study presents an analysis of characteristics of the research and development projects funded in the 2013 and 2015 calls by the Paraguayan Program for the Development of Science and Technology. For this purpose, a quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional research was carried out. The population analyzed consisted of all the projects executed, obtaining data from the awarded resolutions, which all constitute public access documentation. Results reveal that 511 projects were executed in the 2013 and 2015 calls. Public institutions, especially universities, accounted the largest number of projects executed. The institutional modality concentrated the most pro- portion of projects proposal, accepted and executed. The Social Sciences, Medical Sciences and Health Sciences were the most representative areas. Most of the projects matched to sectors considered as priority sectors, according to the White Book of the Guidelines for the National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy of Paraguay. Based on this research, it is considered pertinent to carry out similar studies that analyze the projects awarded in calls for proposals sub- sequent to those of the period of this present work, in order to generate data that will contribute to decision-making in future calls for proposals with competitive funds.
