Abstract

RODRIGUEZ CANETE, Clarissa Melina. Impact of deforestation on carbon dioxide capture and oxygen supply in Paraguay. Period 1990-2020. Poblac.Desarro. [online]. 2022, vol.28, n.54, pp.6-15. ISSN 2076-054X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/pdfce/2076-054x/2022.028.54.006.

Breathing is a necessity for the human being, the oxygen found in the air is of vital importance. Therefore, preserving air quality becomes relevant. This research focuses on the importance of the forest area both for the provision of oxygen and for the capture of carbon dioxide. Taking into account the progressive deforestation for decades in Paraguay, environmental laws were analyzed, many of them related to economic activities. In the case of the Eastern Region due to agricultural expansion and in the Western Region related to livestock activities, which caused environmental deterioration. The methodology applied was a non-experimental, descriptive and correlational design. Based on the deforested area, the loss of oxygen production demanded by 2,653,205 people and the reduction of carbon dioxide capture equivalent to 7,959,614,740 kg, in the period 1990 and 2020, were estimated.

Keywords : deforestation; oxygen; carbon dioxide uptake.
