Abstract

VERA-VERA, Cynthia Gabriela. Market concentration indexes of the Paraguay’s branches of economic activity as a determining instruments of the structure in 2010. Poblac.Desarro. [online]. 2019, vol.25, n.48, pp.28-37. ISSN 2076-054X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/pdfce/2076-054x/2019.025(48)028-037.

The market concentration refers to the level of participation that companies have over the branch of activity in which they operate and is calculated through the use of market concentration indexes. A high level of concentration means that the market is very concentrated on a company and it is difficult to compete with it for costs or barriers to entry.

The objective of this study is to determine the structure under which Paraguayan industrial, commercial and service companies performed in 2010, through the use of market concentration indexes, considering as problematic the lack of knowledge of the utility and the importance of calculating market concentration indices and the respective analysis of results to determine the structure under which companies operate in Paraguay. The methodology has been carried out under a bibliographic-documentary design, exploratory, descriptive and explanatory levels, the focus of the work was quantitative, and methods such as analysis, synthesis and deduction were used. At a general level, it is noted that the market structure of the different sectors of the economy in which the companies operate, presents conditions close to oligopoly and perfect competition. The contribution of the study consists in the glimpse of the importance and usefulness of the calculations of the indices for the determination of the structure of the markets through the economic concentration.
