Abstract

MORINIGO AGUAYO, Jorge; ACHINELLI BAEZ, Marcela  and  BARRIOS LEIVA, Oscar. Soya in Paraguay. An approach to the economic quantification. Period 1994-2016. Poblac.Desarro. [online]. 2018, vol.24, n.46, pp.24-36. ISSN 2076-054X.  https://doi.org/10.18004/pdfce/2076-054x/2018.024(46).024-036.

South America became the region where the main grain producers are located. The impulse of the southern granaries, started from an international demand in Asia, accompanied by innovations in agricultural production, especially biogenetics. In Paraguay, the economy was based historically on the agricultural-livestock sector, being the soybean crop one of the most outstanding items of the country, due to its impact on national accounts. This work makes an approximation to the impact of soy in the Paraguayan economy from the use of an input matrix product of 2004, considering that in that year the genetically modified seed was introduced as one of the innovations of soybean producers. Similarly, semistructured interviews were used with soy experts, in order to broaden the vision of the different aspects of the subject studied. The main results reflect the quantitative importance of soy in the Gross Domestic Product and the need to have a greater articulation of the different actors of the country.

Keywords : OGM; agriculture; soy; Paraguay.
