This thesis analyzes the influence of second-ary school in overcoming poverty, using Per-manent Household Survey for the years 2005-2008-2011 with poverty indicators, crossed with demographic variables. A regression model with ordinary least squares (Mincer model) is used. The population analyzed has between 18 to 65 years old, employed and salaried. Inactive and unemployed popula-tion was excluding for not having wages and to prevent capital generate biases in the ed-ucational return. A conclusion of this investi-gation is that education is one of the factors with stronger significance on the income level, and that years of education has direct relation with wage income level. The estimated rate of return of education for the country is 7.3%, generated by the education. Salaried workers living in urban areas earn 12.9% more than those salaried workers living in rural areas. A man receives 23.3 % higher than the salary of a woman with equal education.
