BARRIOS, AM; ROMERO M, Del C M; MEYER DE BATAGLIA, L  e  MARECO PINO, A. Change in Intraocular Pressure During Hemodialysis. Rev. Nac. (Itauguá) [online]. 2009, vol.1, n.2, pp.39-43. ISSN 2072-8174.

ABSTRACT Most Studies now makes it possible to relate changes in intraocular pressure as another facto f the disequilibrium syndrome Turing hemodiálisis. Objetives: Assess the change in intraocular pressure in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. Establish the relationship of intraocular pressure with other parameters such as blood osmolality, blood pressure and months of hemodialysis. Methodology: Descriptive, longitudinal prospective study. Results: Twenty-nine (29) patients, of whom 14 (48%) were female and 15 (52%) were men. The mean patient age was 40 ± 13.3 year. Regarding the time of hemodialysis patients (38%) from 1 to 2 year, 6 (21%) for to 3 year, 7 (24) from 3 to 4 year and 5 (17%) more than 4 year. The diseaes causing chronic renal failure are Diabetes Mellitus type II, hypertension, and congenital obstructive Uropathy, Vasculitis, Polycystic kidney disease and Systemic Lupus Erytomatosus. The Etiology of patients with chronic renal failure was unknown. The mean baseline IOP of 58 eyes was 14.89 ± 2.3 mmHg. Mean IOP at hours was 18.24 ± 3.65 mmHg. (p<0.001 t Student`s test). IOP in both eyes increased by less than 3 mmHg., in 30 eyes the increase was 3 to 5 mmHg. and in 7 eyes the IOP increased by more than 5 mmHg. Conclusion: There is an increase of intraocular pressure durig hemodialysis in patients with chronic renal failure. The osmolality and the time on hemodialysis did not influence the intraocular pressure changes during hemodialysis in chronic renal patients.
