ABSTRACT The pandemic influenza in the winter of 2009 affected the gynecological-obstetrical patients from Paraguay. Objetives: identify demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with suspected influenza-like illness who were admitted to the Department of Gynecology-Obstetrics of the National Hospital from 1 July to 7 August 2009. Methods: observational, descriptive, prospective study. Result: We included 38 women, mean age 25 ± 8 years, 36 (96%) were pregnant and 2 were gynecological patients. The reasons for consultations were respiratory symptoms: 14 (37%), labor and respiratory symptoms: 7 (18%), obstetric conditions: 16 (42%), gynecologic diseases 2 (5%).The laboratory features were: normal blood count 30 cases (70%), positive blood culture in 1 case only (2.6%). The time between the initiation of oseltamivir and the onset of symptoms was on average 5.7 ± 4.5 days. The main comorbidities were: severe pre-eclampsia 5 patients (13%) and asthma 2 (5%). All were discharged in good condition after a mean hospitalization of 6.1 ± 3.1 days. The most common obstetric management was the interruption of pregnancy: 13 patients (65%). The average weight of newborns was 2591 ± 798 grams, the Apgar score was 7.6 ± 1.18 points at first minute and 8.7 ± 0.46 points at 5 minutes. Conclusion: the influenza-like disease affected the gynecological-obstetric area with maternal and fetal complications of relevance.
