Introduction:
Dengue fever is the most widespread vector-borne viral disease in the world, being a significant economic burden in endemic countries. Although was tried to determine the cost related to cases of dengue and its economic impact in several countries, the magnitude of its economic repercussion in our country is not known.
Objective:
Determine the Economic Impact of dengue in the Regional Hospital of Coronel Oviedo during 2017
Materials and method:
Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study, with non-probabilistic sampling for convenience. All the clinical records of the patients diagnosed with Dengue and admitted to the Regional Hospital of Coronel Oviedo during the year 2017.
Results:
The 22 patients entered the study, with a median age of 29 years (P25 = 26 and P75 = 35), 54.55% were female. The total cost per patient during the 4 days of average hospitalization was 5,793,544 guaraníes (local currency)
Conclusion:
the management of dengue in hospitalized patients implies a high cost investment in guaranties (local currency) per day per patient, with an average of four days without complications.
