Blood donation is an act around which have created myths and superstitions as you can gain or lose weight, lead to decreased sexual ability or favor the possible transmission of diseases and infections conception. The aim of the study was to determine the knowledge, practices and attitudes towards blood donation in the university of the Faculty of Health Sciences of Coronel Oviedo. The quantitative research was descriptive, observational and cross-sectional was conducted during the months of November and December 2013, the sample consisted of 259 students from various faculties of health sciences. A questionnaire for data collection was applied. 58% of college was at a level of adequate knowledge, 54.03% demonstrated know the concept of blood, 73.75% agreed with the donation volunteer blood supply and 82.63% knew the age minimum to donate blood. In practice, the 30.50% of the participants had ever donated blood and most donated voluntarily. As for attitudes, 85.33% considered the major gift and 91.51% said it will donate blood in the future to someone in need. The university population represents a potential source of donors; adequate information and motivation campaign could turn a high percentage of people intending to donate blood in the future, actual volunteer donors
