FERREIRA-AGUERO, Marcos Arturo et al. Relationship of obesity and weight on high blood pressure with students of medicine. Rev. Inst. Med. Trop. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.2, pp.15-20. ISSN 1996-3696.

Excess body fat and weight are now recognized as the major determinants of high blood pressure in adults. This study aimed, identify association and correlation between obesity, identified by waist circumference (CC) and body mass index (BMI) of the skin, hypertension (PAE) in medical students. For that, it was a cross-sectional epidemiological study, in some population-based universities, adult students of both sexes, aged between 18 and 45, selected students of in second to fourth year.

structured questionnaire; measurements of weight, height, triceps fold thickness, waist circumference, blood pressure; Diagnosis of obesity by BMI, PCT and CC; PAE diagnosis. Statistical analysis: Chi square.

112 students were evaluated (43 males, mean age 24.79 years) and identified a prevalence of obesity (BMI, CC), respectively, 55.81 %, 51.16 %. There was significant association of obesity (BMI, CC) PAS (p <0.05). Moderate between BMI and DBP (p <0.45); weak between CC and between the PAD (*<p 0.05). WHO classification serious divide majeza, majeza moderate, mild, Healthy majeza, Overweight, Obesity 1 Obesity Obesity 2 and 3. It was found in Overweight: 37.20 % with obesity 1: 16.27 % and obesity 2: 4, 65 %.

The association and significant correlation between PAI and excess body fat by any of the methods used provide that the importance of their use in the evaluation of medical students, with a view to preventing ha in this group, suggests that use BMI associated with at least another anthropometric method.
