OLIVERI, César; AVALOS, Cyntia e ARBO, Antonio. Dog bite in children. Experience of the Institute of Tropical Medicine. Rev. Inst. Med. Trop. [online]. 2014, vol.9, n.1, pp.17-20. ISSN 1996-3696.
Animal bites pose a major public health problem for children and adults worldwide. The consequences for human health will depend on the species in question and their health, the size and health of the victim of the bite, and the ability to access adequate health care (1). From January 2007 to June 2009 there were 2893 visits per animal bite at the institution. In 2009 627 animal bite cases of which 521 cases (83%) were due to dog bite were found. In these latter cases, 18/521 (3.4%) had discretion of hospitalization, 76% coming from the area of Greater Asuncion. The high incidence of these lesions indicates the need for preventive measures and public policy strategies
