ABSTRACT Here we try to do a historical review of the first years of Bioethics in Paraguay and especially of the Bioethics Committee at the Hospital de Clinicas, Faculty of Medical Sciences at the National University of Asuncion. Bioethics arrives to Paraguay in the 90´s and follows an ascending development up to establishing itself in chairs of several faculties of medicine and in postgraduate training up to the specialist level. Numerous publications in indexed materials make appearance. An equal development exists between the biomedical and social aspects. Lately the Asociación de Estudios Bioéticos got projected towards providing advice to members of parliament in projects of law like the palliative care, advance directives or in the conformation of National commission of Bioethics.
