Abstract

ABSTRACT The chain of custody is the procedure which is used for the handling of physical evidence related to a crime, from its initial location, until they are evaluated by the different officers in charge of administering justice, and aims not to vitiate the handling of them and then, to avoid contamination, alteration, damage, replacements, pollution or destruction. From the location, collection, packaging and transportation of the evidence at the scene of the accident, and the submission to the debate, the chain of custody must ensure that the procedure was successful, and that the evidence collected at the scene, is the same that is being presented to the court, or the respective expert.
