Abstract

ABSTRACT Tinea nigra is a superficial mycosis caused by Hortaea werneckii; affecting the stratum corneum of the palms, rarely soles of feet and elsewhere. Its distribution is universal, but is rare, and in Paraguay there are no previous communications. The case of a male patient, aged 16, with a pigmented macula on the palm of the right hand whose diagnosis was confirmed mycologically is presented. Key words: Tinea nigra, palm of hand, black ringworm in Paraguay.
