ABSTRACT Arteriovenous malformations in the head imply a great challenge in the therapeutic management. Any treatment poorly conducted through gestures maladjusted, among them surgery, can be devastating in the vital prognosis. The adecuate therapeutic strategy must contemplate the timing for the plastic or reconstructive surgery. The authors report the case of a young patient with an advanced extracranial malformation whose clinical presentation saw the occurence of the more fearful complication of this entity: the massive hemorrhage. Key words: arteriovenous malformations, treatment, plastic surgery, reconstruction.
