DE MESTRAL, E  and  FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS MEDICAS. UNIVERSIDAD NACIONAL DE ASUNCION. A SOLIDARITY BIOETHICS. An. Fac. Cienc. Méd. (Asunción) [online]. 2011, vol.44, n.2, pp.47-58. ISSN 1816-8949.

ABSTRACT Politics (rational action in accordance with values and purposes) must be informed by ethics (the must be in personal and social spheres) on necessary actions referring to justice to be implemented in society. Bioethics (study of human behavior in topics of life and health) must clarify the relation between life and freedom, by means of rational deliberation, defending the person’s dignity as the center of the debate on the exercise of political power. In a materialistic world, without metaphysics, and in a society scourged by poverty and inequity in access to health, bioethics should be concerned about promoting justice and not be relegated to hospital and research settings. Bioethics must strive to restore situations of dignity to populations who could not be fully developed due to multiple educational, economic obstacles and a system of exclusion. Keywords: bioethics, justice, politics.
