All patients admitted with a diagnosis of stroke should undergo nutritional assessment at hospital admission, to diagnose the presence of dysphagia, and nutritional status at an early stage. These patients usually are malnourished on admission or at risk of malnutrition therefore, the initiation of appropriate nutritional therapy is an essential part of treatment for a favorable outcome in this disease.
