Abstract

DI MARTINO ORTIZ, B; RODRIGUEZ MASI, M; KNOPFELMACHER, O  and  BOLLA, L. Expression of p53, bcl-2 protein and Ki67 in basal cell tumours. An. Fac. Cienc. Méd. (Asunción) [online]. 2010, vol.43, n.1, pp.47-50. ISSN 1816-8949.

Objective: To determine the expression of p53, bcl-2 and Ki-67 proteins, in diferent histological variants ofbasal cell carcinomas. Study design: Pilot study of immunohistochemical variables (p53, Bcl-2 and Ki-67) in 20 basal cell carcinomas, diagnosed and treated over a period of 9 months. Results: Immunostaining was positive in 35% of cases for p53 protein and in 70% for bcl-2 protein. Ki-67 protein expression varied between a minimum of 0% and a maximum of 60%. Conclusions: We could conclude that the rate of cell proliferation measured by Ki-67 antibody is negative in nodular forms and positive in non nodular, the expression of Bcl-2 protein is weakly positive in non nodular variants, and finally the expression of mutated p53 is seen in both groups, but is higher in not nodular forms. More studies would be necesary with greatest volume of patients and control group for these results been statistically significant.

Keywords : Immunohistochemistry; basal cell carcinoma; p53; Bcl-2; Ki-67.
