ABSTRACT Three hundred male and female school children were evaluated by podoscopy to determine the prevalence of flat feet in three public schools of Asunción and Great Asunción during 2008. The positive cases were grouped and subjected to a podographic study where they their plantar footprints were obtained to know the degree of flat feet according to the Tachdjian's flat foot classification. A total of 97 school children had flat feet with a prevalence of 32,2% of which 52 patients were male (53,6%) and 45 women (46,4%). Grade I was predominant with 51 patients (52,5%), grade 2 was seen in 39 patients (40,2%) and less frequently grade 3 in 7 patients (7,3%). We did not find any patient with flatfoot grade 4. An increased frequency of flat foot was observed in children between 5 to 7 years, 46 patients (47,4%). Only 6 patients (6,2%) knew of his condition of flat feet and had seen a specialist for treatment.
