SOILAN, B et al. Post-surgical infection by rapid growth atypical Mycobacteria. An. Fac. Cienc. Méd. (Asunción) [online]. 2008, vol.41, n.3, pp.43-45. ISSN 1816-8949.

We discuss four cases of patients with breast implants, which are local erythema, induration, fluid seropurulent periprosthetic. In examining fresh, there are no fungal elements, Gram stain shows no bacteria. Ziehl-Neelsen stain, AFB are observed. In cultures in blood agar bacteria do not develop after 72 hours of incubation. Development of small punctiform colonies at the 5th day of incubation. Cultivation in Lowenstein-Jensen, non-pigmented colonies of the 7th day. Identification of colonies: Atypical Mycobacteria Growing Fast Runyon Group IV. Recommendations were followed for these cases with good clinical response to treatment.

Keywords : breast implants; purulent fluid; atypical mycobacteria.
