SAMANIEGO, Castor et al. Colecistectomía laparoscípica. La experiencia de un centro privado. An. Fac. Cienc. Méd. (Asunción) [online]. 2005, vol.38, n.1-2, pp.68-73. ISSN 1816-8949.

Background: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) is the standard procedure for gall bladder stones and their complications. Its correct use has advantages and disadvantages. Materials and methods: One hundred thirty consecutive cases of LC performed over one year’s time were analyzed retrospectively to describe demographic characteristics, indications for surgery, technical difficulties and immediate results. Results: The series includes 89 women and 41 men. Average age was 48 (range 16-87) years. Twenty four patients had arterial hypertension, 5 had diabetes mellitus and 7 had both; 6 had asthma and 5 were allergic to medication. Eighty six LC were performed for chronic cholecystitis and 44 for acute cholecystitis (38 lithiasic, 6 alithiasic). Two LC were converted to an open procedure: one due to hemorrhage in a patient with cirrhosis and portal hypertension, and one due to difficulty in the identification of anatomic structures in a patient with acute inflammation and a plastron. One patient had a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) during surgery. Sixty three patients were released from hospital within 24 hours, 47 in two days and the remainder on the fifth postoperative day. Two patients had residual lithiasis which was resolved by endoscopic papillotomy. Conclusion: LC is a safe and effective method of treatment for gall bladder lithiasis. The coexistence of chronic systemic disease does not seem to modify the results.
