In Paraguay, according to the 2011 report on Tobacco Control from the Pan American Health Organization, the prevalence of tobacco smoking was 30% in men and 14% in women. In adolescents, the prevalence was 20.8% and 12.9%, respectively. This descriptive, cross sectional study was conducted on 65 mediccine students of 1st to 3rd year of the National University of Asunción. The study was held in October 2014. A modified version of the Global Survey of Student Health was used. The results were expressed as means, standard deviations, frequencies and percentages. The 56.9% was women and the mean age 21.2 years, 44.6% reported having smoked at least once and 29.2% smoke for the first time between 15 and 18 years. Smoking prevalence was 7.7%. More than 80% showed positive attitudes and practices in the fight against smoking. The smoking prevalence is lower than the one found in nursing students of the National University of Asunción, lower than that reported among students from the School of Medicine of the Complutense University of Madrid, and also lower than the prevalence of smokers in the Paraguayan general population. Students were in favor of the fight against smoking .
