The habitat and biological behavior of triatomines are important factors in the epidemiology of Chagas disease. The main vectors colonize the dwellings with high densities, present remarkable anthropophily and high Trypanosoma cruzi infection rates. Potential vectors are defined as native or "lower epidemiological importance" species occupying habitats close to domiciles, capable of invading dwellings in low densities and incapable of colonizing them in the presence of primary species. This manuscript provides information about the population dynamics of potential vectors involved in T. cruzi transmission, this is to say triatomines that use peridomicile and its surroundings as the main area of interaction with domestic, wild and synanthropic hosts and although many of the them have not colonized the dwellings, they show changes in their behavior. Based on dynamics population, these population changes are related to the feeding pattern and high gene flow that describes the accidental dwelling invasion, and some species have even showed adaptive mechanisms. This work highlights the importance of performing studies with eco-systemic approaches applied to vectors involved in trypanosomiasis transmission, for which there is a need to increase research about vectors, adaptability, distribution and infection rates as well as infestation, which leads to the design and implementation of more effective control strategies to reduce the transmission of this parasite.
