GIMENEZ, V et al. Evaluation of the vulnerability to acquire haemorrhagic dengue in adult patients attending the Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias de la Salud in 2007. Asunción-Paraguay. Mem. Inst. Investig. Cienc. Salud [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, pp.45-49. ISSN 1812-9528.

ABSTRACT During the last decades, there was an increase of the incidence of classic dengue fever in America. The objective of the study was to evaluate the vulnerability to acquire haemorrhagic dengue fever determining the frequency of IgG against dengue virus in subjects that attended the Instituto de Investigaciones en Ciencias de la Salud from February to April 2007. The data of the patients remained confidential and they were obtained from analyses requested by the physicians and a survey. One hundred eighty two subjects with ages from 18 to 75 years were studied. One hundred and nine were women and 73 men with age means of 33±13 years and 31±14 years respectively. IgG was determined in serum by an indirect ELISA. Seventy three (40%) patients were positive to IgG against dengue virus and 109 (60%) were negative. Considering the high frequency of IgG against dengue virus found in this study and the previous circulation of three serotypes of the virus in 2007, it is necessary to create a multidisciplinary team in order to coordinate national studies and sanitary campaigns.
